In a display of successful collaboration, JSI Alliance (formerly Jumbo-SAL-Alliance), Total Movements Pvt. Ltd., and Sai Maritime achieved the safe and efficient transport of heavy lift cargo along the Indian coast.
JSI Alliance, the preferred carrier for this project, deployed the MV ANNA, a Type 116 vessel operated by SAL Heavy Lift GmbH & Co. KG, a member of the JSI Alliance with an extensive fleet of over 50 self-geared heavy lift vessels. Sai Maritime, JSI Alliance’s trusted agent in India for decades, expertly coordinated the shipment booking and logistics.
The journey, which included stops in Mumbai, Kolkatta, and Paradip, presented challenges including rough seas and extended conversion procedures. “Rough seas and swell, lengthy conversion procedures and revision in lifting plans were just some of the challenges that we faced during the loading operations, however thanks to the wonderful co-operation and support shared between all parties, the issues were sorted out” says Rukhsana Vohra Mithani, Director of Sai Maritime.
Close collaboration between SAL’s engineering team and TOTAL Movements’ engineering team ensured the safe loading and discharge of five heavy lifts ranging from 243 MT to 711 MT. Careful planning addressed every detail to prevent miscalculations and unforeseen circumstances.
Furthermore, precise planning by TOTAL’s inland logistics team significantly reduced turnaround time at discharge ports. Barges were positioned alongside the vessel upon arrival, facilitating a swift cargo transfer.
The vessel’s master and crew deserve a special mention and gratitude their dedication and expertise, which were instrumental in ensuring a successful voyage. This collaborative effort exemplifies the importance of teamwork in complex heavy lift operations.
