Belgian dredging companies to build new port in India

Belgian dredging companies DEME and Jan De Nul will jointly dredge a port in India, they announced on Wednesday evening during the ongoing royal economic mission in the Asian country.

The companies will subcontract for their Indian partner, ITD Cementation, as part of a joint venture. A letter of award was signed for this purpose during the economic mission.

The project involves land development and coastal protection for the port of Vadhavan, located on India’s west coast. The Indian government aims to make it one of the world’s top ten container ports by 2040.

Work is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2025, post-monsoon. For this project, DEME and Jan De Nul will deploy two of their largest trailing suction hopper dredgers.
