GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. achieved significant growth in cargo operations in CY 2024, handling 180,914 metric tonnes of cargo. This represents a 22% increase in cargo growth compared to CY’23.
The airport’s cargo volume comprised 108,520 metric tonnes of international cargo, which saw a 36% surge, and 72,395 metric tonnes of domestic cargo, which grew by 5%. Hyderabad Airport’s pharmaceutical cargo handling continued to be a significant contributor , with the airport remaining a leading hub for handling high-value pharma cargo in India.
HYD Airport has achieved several notable recognitions. It was named the best performing airport for cargo import release times for the second consecutive year, as per the National Time Release Study (NTRS) 2024, and also ranked second-best for export release times. Additionally, Hyderabad Cargo has been reaccredited under the IATA Safety Audit for Ground Operations Program (ISAGO) in February 2024, reaffirming its commitment to safety and quality in ground handling. The Cargo Terminal at Hyderabad also achieved U.S. Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) certification, streamlining cargo clearance for U.S.-bound shipments and benefiting from expedited processing and reduced inspections.
In terms of international connectivity, Hyderabad Airport operated cargo flights to over 20 destinations worldwide. The airport also established a direct connection to the African market with Ethiopian Airlines operating two weekly freighter services between Hyderabad and Addis Ababa. Lufthansa Cargo began operating Boeing 777F freighters from Hyderabad in October 2024, while Qatar Airways increased its freighter frequency on the HYD-DOH route from 2 to 3 weekly, effective February 2025.
To cater to the growing demand, Hyderabad Airport’s cargo infrastructure is being expanded. The existing Cargo Terminal 1 is being upgraded, while a new Cargo Terminal 2 is under construction, with Phase I expected to become operational this year. An additional 20,000 square feet of warehousing space is being developed within the RGIA Cargo Village.
The airport’s focus on efficiency and customer satisfaction has been recognised, with Hyderabad Airport being named the best-performing airport for cargo import release times for the second consecutive year.
