The Bengaluru railway division has operated India’s first ACT1 (bogie-covered auto car taller) freight train to transport 264 SUVs from Andhra Pradesh’s Penukonda to Farukh Nagar in Haryana, generating a revenue of Rs 34 lakh to the railways.

“This initiative marks a new era in the efficient, cost-effective transportation of vehicles and is expected to contribute significantly to the railway’s revenue,” the South Western Railway (SWR) said in a statement.

The ACT1 rake consists of 33 specially designed wagons that carry up to 264 SUVs, higher than the existing BCACBM wagons. The ACT1 wagons have a double-decker design, which allows SUVs to be loaded onto both decks.

Amitesh Kumar Sinha, Divisional Railway Manager; Parikshit Mohanpuria, Additional Divisional Railway Manager; Krishna Chaitanya, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, and other senior officials inspected the rake at Penukonda as it departed with a full load of 264 SUVs, the SWR said.
